Veterans Day: Honoring All Who ServedWe will observe Veterans Day on Thursday, November 11 with an assembly at 7:30 am, followed by a breakfast for veterans in our cafeteria sponsored by Conifer High School Student Government. Outside, a banner and individual honoree signs from past years will be displayed.

Congratulations to our students that will be participating in Jeffco All-County Middle School Band and Orchestra! Students from across the district audition for the ensemble, then learn the selected pieces for the All-County concert on Friday, January 14 at Arvada High School. Students that will be representing West Jeff Middle in the All-County instrumental music ensemble are:

All-County Band: Ella G., flute; Lucian J., alto saxophone; and Zac B., tuba;

All-County Orchestra: Henrik S., viola; and Rowan J., cello.

The last day of first trimester is Friday, November 12. As the end of the trimester approaches, it is important to check grades for each class through Infinite Campus / Portal. Please have your student check with each of their teachers regarding the deadline for submitting late or missing work or redos. The deadlines may vary from teacher to teacher, so it is important to double check. The schoolwide grading policy is published in the WJMS Student Handbook.

Second trimester schedules will be available on Friday, November 12. Families will want to ensure their students find their schedule on Infinite Campus / Portal over the weekend.

Students will want to check the lost and found, located across from counseling, for any items they may have misplaced. Unclaimed items will be sorted and either discarded or donated to charity after Friday, November 19.

Our sixth and seventh grade digital citizenship learning in November will focus on news and media literacy. Please refer to the family letter for additional information about ways families can assist their students in understanding this month's topics.

Students will be recognized in short Honor Roll assemblies for each grade level after the trimester ends. Families are welcome to join us and take pictures. A GPA of 4.0 is recognized with Gold Honor Roll; a GPA of 3.9-3.5 is recognized with Silver Honor Roll. Assemblies will be held after Thanksgiving break, specific dates will be announced as soon as they are available.

ACT: Acknowledge, Care, TellOur seventh grade students are tentatively scheduled to receive suicide prevention training in homeroom classes on December 7th and 8th. Additional information is available in the SOS Signs of Suicide Family Letter. Our mental health staff will prioritize speaking with any students who request support following the programming. Families that would like to opt their student out of the training should contact Melissa Shute by email or at 303-982-7591.

The next School Advisory Council meeting is Monday, January 10th at 2:35 pm at the school with a Zoom option. The meeting is open to interested adult attendees; the November minutes are available on the school website. For more information, please contact SACWJMS@gmail.com.

Families may provide proof of vaccination to the health room for students that have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. (Fully vaccinated means two weeks after the second dose in a two-dose series.) Students that are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will not be considered a close contact and therefore not need to be quarantined in the event of an exposure at school.

Please remind your students to be considerate of vehicles parked in the neighborhood around our school when walking before or after school. Damaging private property is a criminal offense in Colorado and can incur a fine based on the value of damage.
