Holiday Gift Card Drive'tis the Season of Giving

When: through December 17

To brighten the holidays of families in our community, our counseling department and PTA are sponsoring a Holiday Gift Card Drive. Gift cards to grocery stores, Target, and Walmart are especially appreciated, as those allow families to shop for the items they most need.

If you are interested in donating one or more gift cards, please drop it off in the box labeled "Holiday Gift Cards" near the front doors of the school during school hours (7 am - 3 pm) Monday through Friday or mail it to the school to the attention of Jennifer Baker. Please make sure we receive any gift cards by Thursday, December 17th. If you know others in your life that may be interested in helping some of our families, please spread the word!

Please contact Jennifer Baker at Jennifer.Baker2@jeffco.k12.co.us if you have questions, or would like to nominate a West Jeff family that we can support this holiday season. Thank you for your generosity and support!

When: ongoing throughout the year

The school welcomes donations of new folding camp chairs to allow some in-person classes to be held outside when weather permits. Due to storage and cleaning constraints, no more than sixty chairs – to create four sets of 15 chairs each – are needed at this time. If you are interested in donating one or more chairs, please contact the office to make arrangements.

When: ongoing throughout the year

Are you interested in helping plan, construct, or fundraise for a school garden? We plan to start construction of a school garden to repurpose the old tennis courts. To help this project get underway, we need help with reaching out for donations of funds and materials (tools, soil, wood for raised beds, seed, plants, etc.), holding fundraisers, grant writing and community outreach.

The garden will serve as a place for teachers to incorporate outdoor lessons into their classes and provide a beautiful space for after school clubs to use. Our students will have opportunities to learn about growing food and crops in a high-altitude environment and the chance to work through the unique challenges of food and plant production in the arid mountains.

Denver Urban Gardens has committed to support us as an affiliate garden, which will provide us with expert help in planning and construction, as well as curriculum support for our faculty and students. If you are interested in any aspect of helping get our garden off the ground this spring, please contact Kate Broyles at kkatem@hotmail.com.

When: anytime during the year

Each year, our sixth grade team needs about 250 round pieces of wood that are about 4 inches in diameter and 1/2 inch thick. They are used as name tags during the week of Outdoor Lab, so they will need a small hole drilled near the edge. Please see the sample image for how they are used; please contact Ms. Buffington if you can help or have additional questions.
