Advise Clubs

Advise ClubsDuring second and third trimesters, Advise teachers host interest-oriented clubs once a week. Students sign up at the start of each trimester.

Past clubs have included anime, art, board and card games, chess, coloring, Doctor Who, film, glee club, Hogwarts, jigsaw puzzles, knitting, logic, loom knitting, paper engineering, poetry, reading, science, science fiction, sewing, skeptics, SMARTBoard gaming, sports, trivia, vision boards, and yoga.

 

Gifted and Talented

Jeffco Gifted and TalentedStudents in the GT Center program at our school may take differentiated GT courses in English/Language Arts, Math, and Social Studies. (To keep in line with state and national course naming conventions, all science classes are STEM Science.)

All students with an ALP are scheduled into an elective once per year and offered open library/lab time by grade level during Advise once or twice a month for to work on tasks related to their goal or other individual or small group activities. Green Team

Green TeamSponsors: Mrs. Baker and Mrs. Buffington

Green Team is a student group that plans and leads energy conservation projects. Our school won the fall 2016 cohort of the ReNew Our Schools energy conservation competition, which resulted in an upgrade to LED lighting in the library and its lab.

Outdoor Lab

Outdoor LabOutdoor Lab gives Jeffco students an opportunity for hands-on learning experiences in outdoor settings. Students spend their days outdoors on educational hikes and learning skills such as archery, working with leaders from Jeffco high schools, teachers from the visiting schools, and Outdoor Lab staff. No other district in the state has a week-long program to send students away and learn on property that the district owns.

2021-2022 West Jeff sixth graders will attend Jeffco Outdoor Lab School during the week of September 27, 2021.

 

WEB Leaders

WEB: Where Everybody BelongsSponsors: Mrs. Buffington and Mr. Keane

WEB, which stands for Where Everybody Belongs, is a middle school orientation and transition program. Eighth grade WEB Leaders are mentors and student leaders who guide sixth graders to discover what it takes to be successful during the transition to middle school through activities, support, and encouragement.

Destination ImagiNation® is a community-based, school-friendly program that takes the ideas of creativity, problem-solving and teamwork and packages them in a fun and meaningful program. FACS Club offers students the opportunity to level up their skills in cooking, sewing, and other areas traditionally taught in Home Economics class. Students are welcome to join anytime. Club meeting dates and times will be posted on the school's calendar.

 

Interact

Our Interact club is on hiatus from meeting during the 2021-2022 school year due to continued public health precautions.

Interact is a club for students to join together to tackle the issues in their community that they care most about through opportunities for service projects, making international connections, and developing leadership skills. The club meets after school on selected afternoons – dates are posted on the school's calendar – and is mentored by the Rotary Club of Conifer. Please see our Interact page for more information.

 

Pride AlliancePride Alliance

The Pride Alliance creates a safe space for students to share the message of community and acceptance for all people. Members plan activities to educate our school and our community, promote Day of Silence on the second Friday in April and Day Without Hate on the last Friday in April, and enjoy connecting with each other. Sea Camp

Sea Camp

Cost: about $1200 (fall 2019)

We are not planning a Sea Camp trip for summer 2022 due to continued public health precautions. Thank you for understanding.

Sea Camp is an optional summer trip for 7th graders (going into 8th grade). The program is a combination of marine science workshops and labs with field activities that include snorkeling in a marine reserve, a trip to sea on a marine research vessel, a visit to Sea World or the San Diego Zoo, study at Scripps Institution of Oceanography's Stephen Birch Aquarium, and exploration of living tide pools, kayaking and snorkeling in Mission Bay.

 

Technology Student Association

Colorado TSASponsors: Mr. Peel and Mr. Wooldridge
Cost: about $325, including state conference (fall 2019)

Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national leadership organization with opportunities in technology, innovation, design and engineering. Members apply STEM concepts through co-curricular programs. Students in TSA are clustered into Advise classes - 8th grade with Mr. Peel, 7th grade with Mr. Wooldridge. Student leaders within TSA attend the Fall Leadership Conference. All members participate in BEST Robotics during the fall and attend the Colorado TSA State Conference, which includes competition events, in February.

 

Sports Offered Outside of the School Day

Girls on the Run

Girls on the RunCost: $145 (fall 2021)

Girls on the Run is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping girls become more joyful, healthy, and confident following their fun, experience-based curriculum. Group goals include completing a virtual 5K run/walk event in the community.

The middle school Heart & Sole program is not being offered at our school in Fall 2021. 

When the middle school Heart & Sole program is offered, the program meets in-person after school on [DAY OF WEEK] from 2:30 to 4:00 pm beginning [DAY], [MONTH] [DD]. The cost is $145 and includes a t-shirt. Girls will meet on the track outside of the school. If weather or public health conditions make meeting in-person inadvisable, a secure Zoom meeting link will be sent to participants at least 24 hours before the scheduled practice. Please contact coach [NAME] at [CONTACT] with any questions or to inquire about scholarship opportunities.

Gold Crown Foundation

Gold Crown FoundationCost: $160 for volleyball (fall 2021), $165 for girls' basketball (spring 2020), practices and games may be at other locations

Gold Crown Foundation is a nonprofit organization that offers youth sports and education programs throughout Colorado and surrounding states. For fall 2021, girls' volleyball tryouts are 6 - 8 pm on Friday, August 20 at Conifer High School and practices will be twice a week in Conifer with league games on Sundays at the Gold Crown Fieldhouse in Lakewood. League play begins at the end of September, and culminates with a tournament at the end of October. Information on spring 2022 girls' basketball (December through February) is forthcoming. Jeffco League Middle School Sports

Evergreen Park and Recreation DistrictCost: $120-135 per season (fall 2021), students need to be picked up after school on practice days and at away games around south Jeffco

The Middle School Sports Program is offered after school by the district in partnership with local park and recreation districts. Practices and/or games against other schools are twice a week. Programs include cross country (August-October), flag football (August-October), volleyball (October-December), basketball (January-March), and track and field (March-May).
